DC's One-Stop Centers and Virtual OneStop Gain Political Attention

The District of Columbia's Department of Employment Services' one-stop centers have received visits from several high-ranking officials and politicians in the past year. These include the U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, Deputy Secretary of Labor Emily DeRocco, Assistant Deputy Mason Bishop, and Steven Friedman, Chairman of the President's National Economic Council.

However, CNN television coverage resulted when Democratic Presidential Candidate John Kerry stopped by the Franklin Street One-Stop Career Center. Kerry talked with people and watched them use the DC Networks Virtual OneStop system, commenting on its usefulness.

"We are fortunate to work with the District of Columbia's Department of Employment Services," says Paul Toomey, President of Geographic Solutions. "They are very proactive and committed to providing dynamic employment and training services and as a result provide us with a tremendous environment to showcase our Virtual OneStop operating system."

The DC Department of Employment Services' staff members use the Virtual OneStop system to help job seekers find employment, training, and support services. They work with employers to assist with job candidate searches and post job openings. The comprehensive Virtual OneStop system has enhanced functionality for summer youth programs, unemployment insurance claimants, and an advanced WIA services component. In addition, local training providers also access the system to update training program and service data. With so much employment information and activity, it is no wonder the DC centers are popular with one-stop customers and government officials observing federal funds in action.

Virtual OneStop Brings Advanced Workforce System To The District Of Columbia

When the District of Columbia wanted to revolutionize the way they deliver one stop services, they chose Virtual OneStop as the ideal way to do it. "They were really looking to change the way services were delivered, not just automate the status quo," says Paul Toomey, President of Geographic Solutions.

DCNetwork's Virtual OneStop Named A Key Resource By Internet Directory

The D.C. Department of Employment Services is proud to be designated as a "Key Resource" in the Labor Market Category by Links2Go, an online company based in Massachusetts which provides online businesses and end users with search and directory services. Their nationally acclaimed Internet Directory includes only the most highly cited links on the web.

Each quarter, Links2Go samples millions of web pages to determine which pages are most heavily used. The most popular pages are downloaded and automatically categorized by topic. At most, 50 of the pages related to a topic are selected as "Key Resources." We have been advised that out of 10 pages selected as Key Resources for the Labor Markets topic, the DOES Home Page, DCNetworks, ranked 7th. The method for selecting pages is outlined below, as communicated to us directly from Links2Go:

When Links2Go says your page is a Key Resource, we mean that your page is one of the most relevant pages related to a particular topic on the web today, using an objective statistical measure applied to an extremely large data set. We get literally hundreds of people requesting that their page be added to one or more topics per week. All of these requests are denied. The only way to get listed as a Key Resource is to achieve enough popularity for our analysis to select your pages automatically.
