We’re beyond excited to announce the launch of our new ‘Economist Corner’ page on the Geographic Solutions' corporate website! This new page will serve as a dedicated space for our monthly Labor Market Forecasts and Reports, which will offer unique insights and perspectives on the state of the labor market.

Each month, Geographic Solutions’ in-house economist, Phillip Sprehe, will analyze current and historical data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Geographic Solutions’ sites and platforms, to break down the latest labor trends, employment projections, and economic indicators. The Economist Corner will feature interactive charts, graphs, and infographics, making it easier for users to visualize and understand the complex data presented in the monthly reports.

Lodging Magazine Features Geographic Solutions' Employment Forecast For The Leisure And Hospitality Industry

The hospitality and leisure sectors employ arts, entertainment, recreation, lodging, and food service workers, among many others. The Covid-19 pandemic changed the landscape of hospitality and leisure employment; the industries were forced to hibernate as employment plunged between February and April 2020.

People began to slowly emerge from isolation in mid-May 2020, and some restaurants, hotels, and theaters began to reopen, some funded by local or state subsidiaries to stimulate the economy. Leisure and hospitality employment continued to grow, slowing somewhat over summer, but job openings in the tourism industry -- which leads much of the hospitality and leisure businesses -- remained dormant.

Florida Trend Features Geographic Solutions' Employment Recovery Forecast For The Leisure And Hospitality Industry

The rebound in Leisure & Hospitality (L&H) employment that began in May 2020 will continue with a second-wave peak expected in July 2021. There was a surge in COVID-19 cases during the Christmas and New Year's holidays that led to many states returning to partial lockdowns. Those actions had a dampening effect on employment.

L&H employment hit bottom at almost 8.7 million jobs in April 2020. In February 2021, it had risen to 13.5 million. March data show is has creeped up to 13.8 million jobs.
