Palm Harbor, FL - (November 4, 2016) - The Florida Department of Education, in partnership with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and software developers Geographic Solutions, recently launched a web-based management application that will manage the state's National Farmworker Jobs Program. The New Application, which is a component within the state's existing Employ Florida system, provides the staff at the Florida Department of Education with a user-friendly application designed to manage all program participant activities and services effectively.
The State of Florida's farmworker program, known as the Farmworker Career Development Program, is funded by a grant under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The program is an integral part of the public workforce system and aims to provide career services, job training, and housing assistance to eligible migrant and seasonal farmworkers, ultimately leading to year-round, unsubsidized employment.
The new application provides an easy-to-navigate interface that assists program staff with obtaining the necessary participant information for eligibility, enrollment federal reporting, and case closure. The application will streamline the Florida Department of Education's business processes and provide more efficient service delivery to farmworkers who participate in the program, giving them the resources and tools they need to succeed in the workforce.
