Louisiana Workforce Commission Takes Care of Residents with Unemployment Claims Totaling Over $1 billion

Being one of the first two states to offer Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), Louisiana has helped its residents maintain their way of life during the COVID-19 crisis.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) has paid approximately 404,000 individuals a total of $1,025,775,306.56 since March 22.

Finding itself among the states leading the nation in response to the economic impact of the pandemic, Louisiana remains dedicated to and capable of paying state unemployment benefits from its UI trust fund while the LWC has a solution in place handling PUA claims.

Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) payments will begin shortly as Louisiana works towards installing the proper systems to handle these claims as well.
